Adventure, Anticipation and Awareness 

Keith and Laura take a trip to Sweden. Sometimes the most meaningful journeys happen when we step outside our individual comfort zones, together. 

Laura’s approach to travel centers on creating meaningful experiences that connect people to places and each other. Her planning and preparation, included months of Swedish language study and enabled the family to engage more deeply with their surroundings. Laura’s greatest satisfaction came from witnessing three generations share experiences together–from midsummer celebrations to exploring family heritage sites. Her ability to balance structured activities with spontaneous moments, like stumbling upon local festivals, shows how intentional planning can enhance rather than limit authentic experiences.

While Keith is initially apprehensive about constant transitions and new environments, he discovered that anticipating problems often creates more stress than the actual challenges. His breakthrough came in learning to trust the process, remembering to communicate and embracing Laura’s planning abilities. Keith found unexpected joy in simple pleasures–from discovering mini golf courses in small Swedish towns to appreciating the quality of local coffee that reminded him of home. Embracing discomfort led to meaningful connections, including meeting an online friend in person and engaging with locals despite language barriers. 

For Laura and Keith, travel is ultimately about relationships, experiences, and the memories they create together. Their Swedish adventure reinforces that the best family experiences often come from embracing both planning and spontaneity. Stepping outside familiar routines, like recording the episode abroad without our usual gear, can create space for personal growth and lead to deeper connections within shared experiences.
